Kostelec
Description:Kostelec lies 3 km north of Kyjov, is surrounded by downs with fields and orchards. Through the village runs the Malšinka Brook, around the village are scattered small forests, under the village there is a small pond. Kostelec has 792 inhabitants and is part of the Moštěnka micro-region. The most significant monument of Kostelec is a late-Gothic Romanesque church unmatched in and around Kyjov. Among other sights are: an architectonically plain chateau and a Memorial of Štěpán Kalivoda I the village square. By the chateau there grew a five hundred years old yew tree. The Krýsl family possess a reconstructed wine press from the year 1796. In the village area there are also a shooting range and two singular localities, Stráně (Slopes) and Malšín, plus a nesting place of a protected bird species, vlha pestrá. In Kostelec people wear north Kyjov folk costume, up to the present time several elderly women wear it for Sunday church services. The village festival is called Svatováclavské hody (St Wenceslau’s Festival).
