The village lies in the audience Hustopeče Hills.
The land acreage is 844 ha (of which 284 ha of forest).
The first mention of the village dates from 1237

1782 there was a school, where from 1889 he worked for 35 years, writer Alois Thesis / dissertation.
Along with his brother William was responsible for the fact that the audience became a literary center of Moravia.
The inspiration for his fictional chronicle of the Year in the Village as the drama drew Marysa here.
