Imagine a cave inhabited by giant statues. When the statues are the knights of Blanice, seeing them is simply a must!
You can find the artificial sandstone cave near Rudka, close to Kunštát. It is the life’s work of Stanislav Rolínek, who was born in Bořitov not far from here. He was a local upholsterer and an enthusiastic self-taught sculptor. The seventeen larger-than-life statues of the knights of Blanice and the four-metre lion is commanded by St. Wenceslas on a horse.
Before this work, Rolínek managed to amaze Europe with a fourteen-metre-high statue of Tomáš Garrigue Masaryk, from which you can only see the huge shoes today. The creation of the cave full of sleeping knights was initiated by the former mayor of Kunštát, František Burian, who participated in its formation himself.
The surroundings of the cave, also called Rudka, are arranged as an open-air park and gallery. Young sculptors create new sculptures here as part of international sculpture symposia and build on Rolínek’s work.
At the end, head for the Milenka hill with Burian’s Lookout Tower made of stone, from which you can see the Jeseníky Mountains, Krkonoše Mountains and Pálava when visibility is good.
