Bike Trip Around the Austerlitz Battlefield - Circuit from Křenovice

The journey begins in Křenovice, about 4 kilometers from the center of Slavkov.

In the Church of St. Lawrence (kostel Sv. Vavřince), Russian war prisoners were gathered after the battle. In a nearby park, a monument in the form of a statue of the Russian general Kutuzov was unveiled on December 4, 2005, on the occasion of the 200th anniversary of the battle.

From Křenovice, the route continues through Zbýšov to Šaratice. The path follows the stops of the educational path Battle of the Three Emperors, consisting of a total of 29 informational panels, connecting the individual locations on the Austerlitz battlefield in a circuit.

From Šaratice, continue on the cycle path through Hostěrádky and Rešov to Újezd u Brna. Visit the chapel of St. Anthony of Padua (kaple sv. Antonína Paduánského), which stands on the location where the cannonade of Austrian artillery initiated the Battle of Austerlitz on the morning of 2 December. In the afternoon, Napoleon observed the withdrawal of the allies from Telnice and Žatčany. The original chapel was destroyed, and the current one was built in 1863.

From Újezd, the road continues northeast, ascending toward Pracký Hill, where the Cairn of Peace Memorial has stood since 1912. This prominent feature on Pratzen Heights has become a symbol of Napoleon's triumph. It was at this very location that the bloodiest battles took place, and the victor of the battle was determined here.

This is the first European war memorial with a message of peace. The cairn, in the shape of a four-sided pyramid, is dedicated not to heroic victors or courageous vanquished, but rather stands in honour of all the victims of the legendary battle. Inside, you can visit a unique chapel with an ossuary, where the remains of the fallen found on the Austerlitz battlefield are still interred. In the adjacent museum, you can explore a multimedia exhibition titled "The Battle of the Three Emperors: Slavkov/Austerlitz 1805". Unfortunately, the café is currently closed.

In the village of Prace, turn onto the road heading east, back towards Křenovice. About half a kilometer before the village, you'll arrive at a place called Krchůvek. In the battle, 30,000 soldiers died, and most of them were interred in mass grave shafts. This monument stands at the location of one of these graves. From Krchůvek, take a short detour in either direction to reach a viewpoint and admire the surrounding landscape.
